Artwork
I never claimed to be a great artist of any kind. But I have been known, on occasion, to pick up a pencil and scribble down a picture or two.
My love of art comes from my Granny, I think. She's a watercolour artist, her sister was an oil painter. Their father was also an oil painter.
His name was Albert Ainsworth, and he was mildly famous in their region of West Yorkshire for his art. I distinctly remember going to a
museum somewhere up there when I was a small child, to see his copy of Lord Leighton's "The Return of Persephone" on display. The
painting itself now hangs in my Aunt's house in France, but it used to hang in my Granny's spare bedroom, and it scared the crap out of me
when I was a kid.
Granny bought me my watercolours when I was young, and I was always encouraged to draw and paint. I've never developed the talent for
making up a picture in my head and translating it onto paper/canvas. Most of the really decent stuff I've done has been a copy of something
else (so in one sense I really did take after my great Grandfather!). I have copies of most of the artwork I've done, either the original paper
or an electronic version. I am missing one piece of work from my collection however - the first watercolour landscape I painted (under
Granny's patient tuition) is still on display in my Mum's office where she works. It must have been 8-10 years since I did it, but she still has
it up and apparently I still get complimented on it.
So here I share some of my favourite pieces I've done. Click on the thumbnails to get a bigger version.

Fantasy Characters
These drawings are of characters I once played in D&D Games. I
found it helped me to visualise my character if I actually sat down
and drew a picture of her.

Cartoon Characters
A variety of cartoon drawings - the door to my room at university was festooned in small cartoons, mostly Disney characters
'Martin the Warrior' A copy of the front cover of one of my Redwall Books
|
'Manga Tinks' As seen on my front page
|
'Goblin' I drew this as a test for a banner I made for LRP
|
'Marvin' One of the many cartoon characters that decorated my door at university
|
'Tinks' Another rendition of my favourite fairy, this time drawn to decorate my door
|
'Greebo' Taken from my Art of the Discworld Book. This was mostly an exercise in getting the shape of the cat right - I've always struggled with animals

Paintings
The few pieces of 'real' art I've done
'Mountains in Provence' A copy of a Cezanne oil painting, mine is in watercolour, and a lot smaller than Cezanne's original, which can be seen here
|
'Mitzi' A pencil drawing I did in tribute to my beautiful cat. This drawing was taken from a photograph I took about 3 days before she died
|
'Labrador' One of the first paintings I did, this one was acrylics, painting by numbers. You can still buy this kit, I found it in a shop not so long ago!
